This paper examines the history of New Zealand as a colony, self-governing territory and the member of the British Commonwealth participating in various World Expos or World Fairs from the first World Expo in London in 1851 to the New York World Fair in 1939. This paper also examines the circumstances leading up to their first participation in the 1970 Osaka Expo, along with New Zealand’s political, economic, and social backgrounds.
