Description

This study explores the reasons behind the differences in the gender wage gap between Taiwan and Japan, two culturally similar countries. By analyzing the labor markets and employment systems in both Taiwan and Japan, the research identifies three factors contributing to the gender wage gap in Japan: (1) gender bias in regular versus non-regular employment, (2) gender bias between job categories that require job rotation and those that do not, and (3) gender imbalances in high-paying industries and occupations. It was found that in Taiwan, the first two factors are not present, and only the third factor contributes to the gender gap. This clarifies the reasons for the differences in gender wage gaps between Japan and Taiwan.
