Description

About the consciousness of the Chinese society change after reform and opening up, it is generally consider to have evolved from collectivism to individualism. In a related discussion, the early 1980s were also positioned as a period of strong collective consciousness. Based on the letters from readers of the Chinese Youth (1978-1984), this study sorted out people’s consciousness of rising stratum from the three aspects of study, career and marriage, including the following three points, including, whether people have perception of the existence of stratum, what are the ways to achieve the upward movement of stratum, and what are their attitudes towards the order of rising stratum at that time. According to the above research, compared with the mainstream ideology advocating "struggle for the Four Modernizations”, people in the late 1970s and early 1980s followed precisely the attitude they realized in their life about the existence of class structure and the order of class movement, which was a extremely personal subjective consciousness.
