We have succeeded in developing a new method for fabricating epoxy-based macroporous monolithic materials with a well-controlled 3D skeletal network micro-structure and an appropriate porosity. The research presented in this paper include the creation of continuous-pore polymer porous materials, the degree of control that can be extended over pore size and pore size distribution, the hydrophilicity of the product, and the existence of functional groups on the material surface and the consequent ease of adjusting its properties. Characterizations of their morphologies were performed using scanning electron microscopy, mercury intrusion porosimetry, small angle X-ray scattering, and gas adsorption measurement (BET method). Several applications have been developed on the basis of these properties and patents have already been applied.
