Summary: "While, from the outside, Joyce studies might appear monolithic, from within, it is manifold, divergent, and lively. The sixteen essays in this volume indicate an expanded and interconnected conversation that brings into relation hitherto distant locales and types of criticism. Taking European, African, Latin American, trans-continental and global perspectives, these essays work within and between a range of critical approaches and vantage points. Many of them engage in new ways with the discussions of Irish history and politics begun by in the mid-nineties by scholars such as Emer Nolan, Vincent J. Cheng, Marjorie Howes, and Derek Attridge. These historical and political concerns have continued to bear fruit in recent years, as evidenced by works by Cheng, Luke Gibbons, and Andrew Gibson. Several of the essays in this volume bring these concerns into relation with issues such as queerness, race, and transnational literary relations.
