<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Synchrotron-radiation X-ray diffraction enabled us to find the significantly large thermal vibration of chloride anions incorporated in a layered double hydroxide consisting of Mg and Al (Mg/Al = 2). The anomaly was ascribed to the hydrated water molecules in the interlayer.</jats:p>
