<jats:p><jats:bold>D. R. Viete, G. J. H. Oliver and S. A. Wilde</jats:bold> comment: First, we would like to commend Aoki <jats:italic>et al</jats:italic>. (2013) on a careful study and thought-provoking manuscript. Their interpretation of the Barrovian metamorphism as a fundamentally retrograde feature offers a refreshing alternative to the more conventional ‘peak-metamorphic’ models.</jats:p>
