Description

The following remarkable results for heavy mesons seem to have been obtained by recent experiments.1l· 2) (i) There is a new resonant state ((-meson) in n-n system.l) The ( meson with isotopic spin T=l and mass m,:::::600 Mev has been observed in the reaction n±+ p~p+n±+n°, but there is no evidence for a (n+n-) peak at 600 Mev. (ii) The apparent two-peak structure in pO(n+n-) has been observed in the p-p annihilation process.2) The masses of the two peaks are mp1 =720±10 Mev, mp,= 780±35 Mev. mp1 is nearly equal to the mass of the well-known n-n resonant state with isotopic spin T=l and spin J=l and mp2 is nearly equal to the mass of w meson. a) Here I should like to suggest a model for the reaction n±+p~N+( and show that the experimental results (containing the results (i) and (ii)) tor heavy mesons can be explain~d to some extent by the particle mixture theory. As to the former problem, there seems to be following interpretation.4l The r; meson is the neutral member of the ( triplet and its mass is lower in the same manner as the n° mass is lower than the n± mass. Although such an interpretation as this may be natural, I should like to suggest the following model by which the result (i) for n±+p~N+(--+N+n+n reaction can easily be explained. The ( meson is produced through the interaction between the incident n± and the virtual w
