<p>Upon treatment with H2S in MeCN–PBS, the fluorescence dormant selenoxides of dibenzobarrelene- and benzobarrelene-based 1-seleno-1,3-butadiene derivatives are rapidly converted to strongly fluorescent selenides.</p>
