<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Buffer solutions of organic acids in various methanol‐water and ethanol‐water mixtures have been measured with cells I and II:</jats:p><jats:p><jats:disp-formula> <jats:graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" position="anchor" xlink:href="urn:x-wiley:01650513:media:RECL19710900309:nueq001"><jats:alt-text>equation image</jats:alt-text></jats:graphic> </jats:disp-formula></jats:p><jats:p>Contrary to the generally held opinion, the liquid‐junction potential of cell I is clearly dependent on the solutes in the mixed solvent with higher percentages of organic solvent. The consequences of this for the determination of dissociation constants in mixed solvents with cell I are discussed.</jats:p>
