<p>Dithieno[3,2-<italic>b</italic>:2′,3′-<italic>d</italic>]pyrrole (DTP) and its derivatives have occupied an important position in both electron-rich and electron-deficient building blocks to construct photovoltaic materials. Here, we highlight the exciting progress of donors based on original DTP, <italic>N</italic>-acyl DTP and fused DTP and acceptors based on lactam and imide, respectively.</p>
