Introduction to Glycobiology
Description
<p> Introduction to Glycobiology considers the impact of sugars on biological systems, explaining their function at the molecular, cellular, and organismal level. It is made up of two parts. Part 1 looks at the structures and biosynthesis of glycans and includes chapters that examine concepts of glycobiology, N-linked glycosylation, O-linked glycosylation, and glycolipids and membrane protein glycosylation. There are also chapters on enzymology and the cell biology of glycosylation, analysis of glycan structures, and conformations of oligosaccharides. Part 2 focuses on glycans in biology. This section looks at the following topics: the effects of glycosylation on protein structure and function; carbohydrate recognition in cell adhesion and signalling; glycoprotein trafficking in cells and organisms; glycobiology of plants, bacteria, and viruses; glycobiology and development; glycosylation and disease; and the future of glycobiology.</p>
