説明

It has been reported that wild chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) eat small mammals (GooDALL 1963, 1965), insects (GooDALL 1963, 1965; REYNOLDS 1965), and so on. As a member of the Kyoto University Africa Scientific Expedition Party, I made an ecological survey of wild chimpanzees at the Kasakati Basin, located on the east shore of Lake Tanganyika, Tanzania, East Africa, from May, 1964, to September, 1965. The research field was in an area where a dry woodland of Brachystegia stretches, and the year is clearly divided into a rainy season (September~May) and a dry season (May~,September). I will here briefly report on the insect-eating habits among wild chimpanzees observed during my period of investigation.
