<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>A chiral one-dimensional copper(II)–gadolinium(III) complex [CuIILdpen(1S2S)GdIII(thd)2]n (H3Ldpen(1S2S) = (1S,2S)-1,2-diphenyl-1-(2-hydroxybenzamido)-2-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylideneamino)ethane, Hthd = 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione) was synthesized, where CuII and GdIII ions are alternately arrayed to form a ferromagnetic chain.</jats:p>
