<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The production of the <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\Lambda $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>Λ</mml:mi></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>(1520) baryonic resonance has been measured at midrapidity in inelastic pp collisions at <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\sqrt{s} = 7\ \hbox {TeV}$$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:msqrt><mml:mi>s</mml:mi></mml:msqrt><mml:mo>=</mml:mo><mml:mn>7</mml:mn><mml:mspace /><mml:mtext>TeV</mml:mtext></mml:mrow></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> and in p–Pb collisions at <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02\ \hbox {TeV}$$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:msqrt><mml:msub><mml:mi>s</mml:mi><mml:mi>NN</mml:mi></mml:msub></mml:msqrt><mml:mo>=</mml:mo><mml:mn>5.02</mml:mn><mml:mspace /><mml:mtext>TeV</mml:mtext></mml:mrow></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> for non-single diffractive events and in multiplicity classes. The resonance is reconstructed through its hadronic decay channel <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\Lambda $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>Λ</mml:mi></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>(1520) <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\rightarrow \hbox {pK}^{-}$$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mo>→</mml:mo><mml:msup><mml:mtext>pK</mml:mtext><mml:mo>-</mml:mo></mml:msup></mml:mrow></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> and the charge conjugate with the ALICE detector. The integrated yields and mean transverse momenta are calculated from the measured transverse momentum distributions in pp and p–Pb collisions. The mean transverse momenta follow mass ordering as previously observed for other hyperons in the same collision systems. A Blast-Wave function constrained by other light hadrons (<jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\pi $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>π</mml:mi></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>, K, <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\hbox {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0$$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:msubsup><mml:mtext>K</mml:mtext><mml:mrow><mml:mi>S</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mn>0</mml:mn></mml:msubsup></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>, p, <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\Lambda $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>Λ</mml:mi></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>) describes the shape of the <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\Lambda $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>Λ</mml:mi></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>(1520) transverse momentum distribution up to <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$3.5\ \hbox {GeV}/c$$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mn>3.5</mml:mn><mml:mspace /><mml:mtext>GeV</mml:mtext><mml:mo>/</mml:mo><mml:mi>c</mml:mi></mml:mrow></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> in p–Pb collisions. In the framework of this model, this observation suggests that the <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\Lambda $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>Λ</mml:mi></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>(1520) resonance participates in the same collective radial flow as other light hadrons. The ratio of the yield of <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\Lambda (1520)$$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mi>Λ</mml:mi><mml:mo>(</mml:mo><mml:mn>1520</mml:mn><mml:mo>)</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> to the yield of the ground state particle <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\Lambda $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>Λ</mml:mi></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> remains constant as a function of charged-particle multiplicity, suggesting that there is no net effect of the hadronic phase in p–Pb collisions on the <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\Lambda $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>Λ</mml:mi></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>(1520) yield.</jats:p>
