Acinetobacter nectaris sp. nov. and Acinetobacter boissieri sp. nov., isolated from floral nectar of wild Mediterranean insect-pollinated plants

<jats:p>The taxonomic status of 14 strains of members of the genus <jats:named-content xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" content-type="genus" xlink:type="simple"> <jats:ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="http://dx.doi.org/10.1601/nm.2765" xlink:type="simple"> <jats:italic>Acinetobacter</jats:italic> </jats:ext-link> </jats:named-content> isolated from floral nectar of wild Mediterranean insect-pollinated plants, which did not belong to any previously described species within this genus, was investigated following a polyphasic approach. Confirmation that these strains formed two separate lineages within the genus <jats:named-content xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" content-type="genus" xlink:type="simple"> <jats:ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="http://dx.doi.org/10.1601/nm.2765" xlink:type="simple"> <jats:italic>Acinetobacter</jats:italic> </jats:ext-link> </jats:named-content> was obtained from comparative analysis of the partial sequences of the 16S rRNA gene and the gene encoding the β-subunit of RNA polymerase (<jats:italic>rpoB</jats:italic>), DNA–DNA reassociation data, determination of the DNA G+C content and physiological tests. The names <jats:italic>Acinetobacter nectaris</jats:italic> sp. nov. and <jats:italic>Acinetobacter boissieri</jats:italic> sp. nov. are proposed. The type strain of <jats:italic>A. nectaris</jats:italic> sp. nov. is SAP 763.2<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> ( = LMG 26958<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> = CECT 8127<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>) and that of <jats:italic>A. boissieri</jats:italic> sp. nov. is SAP 284.1<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> ( = LMG 26959<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> = CECT 8128<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>).</jats:p>
