Significance
Prior to the discovery of exoplanets, astronomers fine tuned theories of planet formation to explain detailed properties of the solar system. The discovery of exoplanets has significantly increased our appreciation for the diversity of planetary systems in nature. In this article we review the current understanding of the late stages of evolution of planetary systems, focusing on observational constraints from radial velocity and transit observations.
