Why amphibians are important
Description
The world's amphibians face an imminent extinction crisis, with nearly a third of species categorized as threatened. The principal cause of amphibian declines is the destruction of freshwater habitats. Many other causes have been identified, which act synergistically; these include pollution, climate change and disease. Amphibian declines and extinctions are evidence of the harmful effects of humans on natural ecosystems.
