<p>Conversion of a DNA-binding fluorophore (DAPI) to a photosensitizer <italic>via</italic> bromination retains high fluorescence and high affinity DNA binding but now produces light-induced reactive oxygen species directed towards DNA resulting in rapid cancer cell death.</p>
