<p>Hydrophobic ion pairing has emerged as a method to modulate the solubility of charged hydrophilic molecules ranging in class from small molecules to large enzymes. Here we review the application of hydrophobic ion pairing for encapsulating charged hydrophilic molecules into nanocarriers.</p>
