<jats:p><jats:list list-type="explicit-label"> <jats:list-item><jats:p>Non‐steroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (NSAID) suppressed compound 48/80‐induced histamine release from rat peritoneal cells <jats:italic>in vitro</jats:italic> in a dose‐dependent manner.</jats:p></jats:list-item> <jats:list-item><jats:p>NSAID suppressed the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) content of rat peritoneal cells <jats:italic>in vitro</jats:italic> and this correlated strongly with the suppression of compound 48/80‐induced histamine release.</jats:p></jats:list-item> <jats:list-item><jats:p>The correlation demonstrated suggests that the mechanism of action of NSAID in the rat peritoneal cells is via depletion of cellular ATP.</jats:p></jats:list-item> </jats:list></jats:p>
