Abstract The photochemical behavior of 1-styrylpyrene in solution has been studied by means of steady irradiation and laser flash photolysis. The triplet state of this olefin has properties of one-way isomerizing and two-way isomerizing olefins, either decaying at the twisted geometry or transferring its triplet energy to the cis isomer at the trans geometry.
