<jats:sec sec-type="objective"><jats:title>Objective:</jats:title><jats:p>To determine if females with hip abductor weakness are more likely to demonstrate greater knee abduction during the stance phase of running than a strong hip abductor group.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type="design"><jats:title>Study Design:</jats:title><jats:p>Observational prospective study design.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type="setting"><jats:title>Setting:</jats:title><jats:p>University biomechanics laboratory.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type="participants"><jats:title>Participants:</jats:title><jats:p>15 females with weak hip abductors and 15 females with strong hip abductors.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type="design"><jats:title>Main Outcome Measures:</jats:title><jats:p>Group differences in lower extremity kinematics were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA with one between factor of group and one within factor of position with a significance value of <jats:italic>P</jats:italic> < .05.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type="results"><jats:title>Results:</jats:title><jats:p>The subjects with weak hip abductors demonstrated greater knee abduction during the stance phase of treadmill running than the strong group (<jats:italic>P</jats:italic> < .05). No other significant differences were found in the sagittal or frontal plane measurements of the hip, knee, or pelvis.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type="conclusions"><jats:title>Conclusions:</jats:title><jats:p>Hip abductor weakness may influence knee abduction during the stance phase of running.</jats:p></jats:sec>
