Description
A new species of Orthonectid,Rhopalura granosafromHeteranomia squamulaL., is described. The female is fusiform, and about 190 to 230μ, long, and 55 to 75μ broad. The male is also fusiform, but less than half the size of the female, being only 87 to 95μ, long and 20μ broad.R. granosais distinguished from all other known species of Rhopalura by the presence in the male of large refringent bodies in the anterior cone, and in the first row of cells of the second ring. The male ofR. ophiocomceGiard, a species closely allied toR. granosa, has the refringent bodies in the cells of the second ring only.
