<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">A</jats:styled-content>sia <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">P</jats:styled-content>acific <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">W</jats:styled-content>orking <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">G</jats:styled-content>roup on <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">I</jats:styled-content>nflammatory <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">B</jats:styled-content>owel <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">D</jats:styled-content>isease was established in <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">C</jats:styled-content>ebu, <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">P</jats:styled-content>hilippines, at the <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">A</jats:styled-content>sia <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">P</jats:styled-content>acific <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">D</jats:styled-content>igestive <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">W</jats:styled-content>eek conference in 2006 under the auspices of the <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">A</jats:styled-content>sian <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">P</jats:styled-content>acific <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">A</jats:styled-content>ssociation of <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">G</jats:styled-content>astroenterology (<jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">APAGE</jats:styled-content>) with the goal of developing best management practices, coordinating research and raising awareness of <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">IBD</jats:styled-content> in the region. The consensus group previously published recommendations for the diagnosis and management of ulcerative colitis (<jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">UC</jats:styled-content>) with specific relevance to the <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">A</jats:styled-content>sia‐<jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">P</jats:styled-content>acific region. The present consensus statements were developed following a similar process to address the epidemiology, diagnosis and management of <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">C</jats:styled-content>rohn's disease (<jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">CD</jats:styled-content>). The goals of these statements are to pool the pertinent literature specifically highlighting relevant data and conditions in the <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">A</jats:styled-content>sia‐<jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">P</jats:styled-content>acific region relating to the economy, health systems, background infectious diseases, differential diagnoses and treatment availability. It does not intend to be all‐comprehensive and future revisions are likely to be required in this ever‐changing field.</jats:p>
