Novel Neosartorya species isolated from soil in Korea

<jats:p>Phenotypic and genotypic characters of strains of<jats:italic>Neosartorya spinosa</jats:italic>and related taxa were analysed.<jats:italic>N. spinosa</jats:italic>,<jats:italic>Neosartorya botucatensis</jats:italic>and<jats:italic>Neosartorya paulistensis</jats:italic>had identical partial<jats:italic>β</jats:italic>-tubulin and calmodulin gene sequences and could not be differentiated on macro- and micro-morphological characteristics, including by scanning electron microscopy. Based on partial<jats:italic>β</jats:italic>-tubulin and calmodulin gene sequences and ascospore morphology, two separate groups are distinguished and are proposed as novel species.<jats:italic>Neosartorya laciniosa</jats:italic>sp. nov. has microtuberculate ascospores with two bent crests and two distinct equatorial rings of small projections.<jats:italic>Neosartorya coreana</jats:italic>sp. nov. has rugose to weak reticulate ascospores with two often bent crests, but without the equatorial rings of small projections. The type strain of<jats:italic>N. laciniosa</jats:italic>is CBS 117721<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>(=NRRL 35589<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>=KACC 41657<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>) and the type strain of<jats:italic>N. coreana</jats:italic>is CBS 117059<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>(=NRRL 35590<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>=KACC 41659<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>).</jats:p>
