Description

Abstract
The influence of surface roughness on electromagnetic surface modes is investigated theoretically. A frequency or wave vector shift is found and a damping of the modes depending on the autocorrelation of the surface roughness. This could be described by an explicit analytic expression. There is good agreement with experimental results on sinus‐odially modulated silver surfaces.
