<p>We propose a novel Cu(<sc>i</sc>)–Cu(<sc>ii</sc>) catalytic cycle for the copper-catalyzed oxytrifluoromethylation of allylamines with CO2, which proceeds through a radical–radical cross-coupling pathway.</p>
