説明

Abstract Damage at airports has been frequently reported as a result of large-scale earthquakes. This study focused on seismic damage to an airport runway due to ground shaking. The runway at Noto Airport in Japan developed cracks during the 2007 Noto Hanto Earthquake (Mw 6.7). Post-event evaluation of this crack occurrence using numerical analysis was used to evaluate the seismic performance of the runway embankment and to quantify the applicability of the proposed method. As a first step, strong motion at Noto Airport was evaluated based on the empirical site amplification and phase effects. Second, a 3-dimensional seismic response analysis for the runway, embankment and bedrock below the runway was carried out. Finally, based on the results, effective indices to evaluate the crack occurrence along the airport runway due to the earthquake were examined. The examination results enable the rational assessment of the seismic performance of airport runways in future practice.
