説明

Abstract
Most digital facsimile scanners scan the input documents and generate black and white pixels by thresholding. This process often creates isolated background noise and notches on the edges of contour lines. In addition to the degradation in image quality, the noise and notches tend to decrease the efficiency of the encoding scheme. This paper utilizes the notion of rectangular points on a C‐dot pattern to remove isolated background noise and notches. the relationship between the rectangular points and the original image is investigated. Experiments are conducted which show a reduction of about 10% in the number of bits needed to represent the raster‐scanned image.
