<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The coefficient characterising the second order magnetoelectric effect in YIG has been measured over the temperature range 100°K to the Curie point. Two mechanisms have been proposed to explain the origin of this effect and the temperature dependence calculated using a two sublattice model shows quantitative agreement with experiment.</jats:p>
