<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Condensation of 4‐bromo‐ (<jats:bold>4</jats:bold>) and 4‐nilro‐l,8‐naphthalimides (<jats:bold>5</jats:bold>) with 2‐aminobenzenethiol gave 4‐(2‐aminoulicnylthio)‐1,8‐naphthalimides (<jats:bold>7</jats:bold>). Cyclisalion of <jats:bold>7</jats:bold> by the: Pschorr reaction afforded benzo[<jats:italic>k,l</jats:italic>] thioxanthene‐3,4‐dicarboximides (<jats:bold>8</jats:bold>), also obtained by reaction ol amities with benzo[<jats:italic>k,l</jats:italic>] thioxanthene‐3,4‐dicarboxylie anhydride (<jats:bold>11</jats:bold>).</jats:p>
