Description

The determinants of the fear of crime are examined with special attention to how the risk and experience of criminal victimization affect that fear. Us ing data from victimization and attitude surveys in eight American cities, a model of the determinants of the fear of crime is developed and evaluated in a preliminary fashion. The major conclusion is that the fear of crime is not simply a function of the risk of and actual experiences with victimization.
