Abstract Observations of wind and temperature in an urban canyon are presented. They form the basis of simple algorithms relating weather conditions above roof-level to those within the street canyon. The temporal development of the spatial distribution of air temperature across the canyon together with the airflow and stability conditions for a complete day is analyzed. The canyon air remains unstable during the nocturnal cooling period in the summer in Japan.
