Gr. <jats:italic>mykes</jats:italic> fungus; Gr. <jats:italic>plane</jats:italic> a wandering; M.L. fem. n. <jats:italic>Mycoplana</jats:italic> fungus wanderer. </jats:p> <jats:p>Proteobacteria / Alphaproteobacteria / Rhizobiales / Brucellaceae / Mycoplana</jats:p> <jats:p> Cells are <jats:bold>curved or irregular rods</jats:bold> with rounded ends, 0.5–0.8 × 2.0–3.0 µm. Occur singly or rarely in pairs. The cells form <jats:bold>branching filaments</jats:bold> prior to fragmentation into irregular rods. Gram negative and nonsporeforming. <jats:bold>Motile by means of peritrichous flagella</jats:bold> . </jats:p> <jats:p> <jats:italic>The mol</jats:italic> % <jats:italic>G</jats:italic> + <jats:italic>C of the DNA is</jats:italic> : 63–65. </jats:p> <jats:p> <jats:italic>Type species</jats:italic> : <jats:bold>Mycoplana dimorpha</jats:bold> Gray and Thornton 1928, 82 emend.
