<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The rigid ion model theory of crystal dynamics is applied to cuprite structure. The general force system involving interactions between first neighbour atoms is derived. Central forces between oxygen second neighbours are also included. Discussion and comparison are made with experimental data.</jats:p>
