<p>Covalent organic nanosheets (CONs) were synthesised from imide functionalised COFs. <bold>TfpBDH</bold>-CONs exhibit a "turn-on" detection capability for 2,4,6-trinitrophenol in the solid state, but show a "turn-off" detection in the dispersion state.</p>
