説明

The line shape of a core level photoemission spectrum has characteristics of both Lorentzian distribution due to core hole lifetime and of Gaussian distribution due to the vibrational excitation of the lattice and the inherent resolution of the photoelectron spectrometer. In the photoemission of a metallic state, final state effect may lead to an asymmetric peak. Therefore, a Gaussian-Lorentzian mixed function first proposed by Ansell et al. was modified to incorporate an asymmetric term by introducing a parameter. This model function was employed for the least square fitting of XPS spectra and was found to have sufficient flexibility to represent various photoemission peaks. The validity to constrain and to fix associated parameters were investigated using as an example a complex spectrum consisting of superimposed peaks.
