Abstract

We have developed an improved method to separate pesticides used on golf courses from drinking and river water by cyanopropyl bonded silica phase HPLC. The packing material was newly prepared with high purity silicagel. The separation was carried out with a packed stainless-steel column (4.6 mm×250 mm) and 45% acetonitrile/50 m Mphosphate buffer (pH 3.7) containing 0.01% EDTA·2Na as the mobile phase (1.0 ml/min at 35°C). The recoveries of the 12 pesticides (asulam, oxin-copper, CAT, MCPP, thiuram, napropamide, propyzamide, iprodione, TPN, pencycuron, bensulide, butamifos) added to drinking water at the 100 μg/l level ranged from 95 to 105%. Reproducibility by this method was excellent. Calibration plots between 5 and 1000 ng (bensulide, butamifos : 10 and 1000 ng)/injection were linear and passed through the origin of the coordinate system. This improved method is considered to be applicable for routine examination of water.
