Abstract

Based on the solvent extraction of Eu and Am by N, N'-dimethyl-N, N'-dihexyl-3- oxapentanediamide (DMDHOPDA) in the presence of thenoyltrifluoroacetone {TTA (=Htta)} the extraction species of M (a) 3 (x) 3, M (a) 3 (tta) (x) 2, M (a) 2 (tta) 2 (x) and M (a) (tta) 3 were observed (M=Eu and Am, a=DMDHOPDA, and x-=ClO4- or ClCH2COO-). The fraction diagrams of these species could be illustrated; it was obvious that the kind of extracted species depends on the pH condition of the aqueous phase, as well as the ratio of the extractants, [Htta] org/ [DMDHOPDA] org. A higher synergistic effect was observed when a higher degree of tta- and a lower degree of x- was participated in the extraction process. The separation factors of Eu and Am decreased in a higher pH region, because both of the extractants caused chelation to the metal ion.
