説明

Volatile organic compounds (VOC) in water easily volatilize, so after taking samples such as environmental water, it is necessary to analyze them immediately. A new quantitative method was developed to determine the concentration of VOC in water by using the adsorption of VOC to active carbon. To stabilize VOC in water, 100 mg active carbon was added to the water sample (120 ml), which was then kept at room temperature for three days. During that period, VOC was adsorped to the active carbon and stable for at least fourteen days. For analysis, active carbon was removed from the water and the active carbon was desorped by carbon disulfide. Dissolved VOC in carbon disulfide was analyzed by gas chromatography. The solution was stable and could be analyzed repeatedly. The recovery was 95%, and the low limit of detection was at least one tenth of the environmental standard value. The values obtained by this method and the Japanese Industrial Standard method were in good accordance. These results suggest that this method is useful for the determination on VOC in ground water and industrial waste water.
