Description

Neophylax koizumii (Iwata), an insect that has been identified as harmful for the fishery, has been previously recorded from the Tohoku region to Aichi Prefecture. In the present study, we report a new locality for N. koizumii in the Kii Peninsula. The larvae of this species were collected from Nyu-gawa Stream in the Kii Peninsula, which is located about 180 km west from the most western locality recorded in Aichi Prefecture. These specimens could be distinguished from a congeneric species, Neophylax sp. NA, previously reported from the Kii Peninsula and western Honshu by the lack of central sclerotized plates on the ventral prothorax and the first abdominal segment.
