Description

PbS photoconductive cell which shows remarkable negative photoconductivity has been developed.
PbS layer is deposited chemically on a sheet of frosted glass and after drying treatment, it is oxidized by heating at 430°C for about ten minutes in an air atmosphere.
After oxidation treatment, a slender copper wire as an electrode of the cell is fixed to the PbS layer with silver paste.
Negative photoconductivity of the PbS cell thus manufactured is seen when the incident light falls in the direction of the positively biased electrode of the cell and this photoconductivity depends on the bias voltage applied across the cell.
Some photoelectric characteristics of the negative photoconductive PbS cell obtained are presented.
The author speculates that a large number of recombination centers at which the positive hole excited by the incident light recombines with the electron excited thermally and the electron excited by the incident light recombines with the positive hole excited thermally are produced in the PbS layer by using the frosted glass as a substrate of PbS layer.
