Abstract
Color balance is an important factor for quality in multicolor printing. In order to keep well-balanced color, it is important to stabilize the amount of ink supply to the plate. For this purpose, a real time measurement system of ink film thickness fluctuation on the distributing roller has been developed. The principle of this method is that the spread of reflected light from the ink film is related to its thickness. The thickness fluctuation is detected by the change of reflected laser beam power from ink film, and is displayed on a color CRT. Merits of this system are as follows: (1) It can measure thickness fluctuation of any color of ink, such as magenta, yellow, cyan and black. (2) It can also monitor the distribution of thickness fluctuation measured at one time on 6 points parallel to the axis of the roller. (3) The sensing head is of a compact design using optical fibers.
