抄録

Validity of the COD criterion for brittle fracture initiation under general yielding condition is examined, where stable ductile crack growth (fibrous crack) precedes the brittle fracture.<BR>In order to study the relation between the critical COD and fibrous crack, effects of specimens geometry on the COD at stable fibrous crack initiation (δi) and also the COD at unstable fracture are examined in detail.<BR>The experimental results show that δi is independent on the specimens geometry, then δi, may be taken as a material constant approximately, and that the COD criterion is effective for the brittle fracture even in the case accompanied by preceding fibrous crack extension.<BR>Finally one method is proposed which predicts COD characteristics of steels by Charpy tests results.
