Abstract

Recently, the duplication process with printing capability of 100 to 1000 copies is becoming to meet more technical interests.
The authors demonstrate the possibility of an electrostatic duplicating master with conductive image in zinc oxide-resin layers. Simultaneous or successive processing with an imagewise light exposure and an application of electric field in electrolyte solution imposed a remarkable change on the corona charge acceptance of zinc oxide-resin layer. The above changes in charge acceptanc are considered to due to the photo-cathodic reduction of zinc oxide (component change) or photo-anodic dissolution of zinc oxide. The electrical resistance of exposed areas on both processes was less than 10 ohms in the direction of the thickness.
In addition, an attempt is described in which the photoconductive memory of zinc oxideresin layers is greatly enhanced by addition of benzoic acid to let the layers work as electrostatic duplication masters.
