Abstract

A new locality of zeolite resources was found in the Pirika-Kun'nui district, Southwest Hokkaido.
The Tertiary system of this area, which is situated in the so-called Green Tuff Region, can be divided into the Setana, Kuromatsunai, Yakumo and Kun'nui formations in descending order.
Zeolitic rocks are found in the Kun'nui formation composed of the Miocene pyroclastic rocks. These zeolitic rocks consist mainly of clinoptilolite and mordenite. The zeolites in these rocks are altered product from volcanic glass of rhyolite-tuffs.
In this paper the results by means of X-ray diffraction and chemical analysis are described.
