Description

The Japanese word "Joho" (information) has become very popular in Japan. It is studied the history of the word "Joho". It is acknowledged that Ogai Mori, an arrmy doctor and a novelist in the Meiji era, is perhaps the first man who made and publicly used this word, when he translated the German war books. It is surmised that influence of thought of Y. Fukuzawa worked on the translation process. Since, this word was generally used as a military parlance and sometime appears in his literary works. The word "Joho" was appeared in Japanese dictionary for the first time between the end of Taisho and the beginning of Showa. At flrst, the word "Joho" meant intelligence as a military palance, but nowadays, we use as information in general. As Chinese character has an ideographic feature, it is studied the character of "Joho" in the light of composition.
