People in the modern world are unknowingly exposed to a vast amount of information, of which complicated quality makes it difficult to discern any meaning in it. While the media have much talked about "big data", only a handful of experts can extract meanings from a heap of dry facts and figures and interpret them appropriately for effective use. Traditional graphs are of limited help to laypersons in interpreting given data ; data systems that provide graphic representations of data in different scales and in different categorizations are rare. The present article describes the interactive data visualization technique and discusses its implication in an environment where the abundant data still continue to grow in amount.
