Abstract

This paper discusses a brief history of standardization process of ruby, a Japanese writing functionality. Firstly, a history of ruby representation in traditional Japanese writing system will be briefly mentioned. Secondly, the process of inclusion of ruby functionality in international standards will be discussed. Thirdly the issues, which should be considered to realize some domestic requirements in international standards, will be discussed.
